WADDAMANA- Tasmania's first major hydro station.
    FORMALLY theWaddamana Field Study Centre
This Waddamana property, Lot 2, is set on 17.8 hectares (approximately 44 acres) in the centre of Waddamana, with the famous historic Hydro Power Station Museum across the road.
This historic village is fully serviced with its own sewerage, water and power connection and was built for the engineers constructing the Power Station. Waddamana is the site of Hydro Tasmania's first hydro power station. After a hard life of generating renewable energy, the station was put into retirement. The Waddamana power station now has a new life as a museum filled with original equipment and other displays.
The homes range from 1917 to the early 1950's and in 1916 power generation began.
Waddamana is located in the southern central highlands of Tasmania, a remote and un-inviting part of the state, both in the early 20th century and today, but the serenity and the abundance of wildlife can be seen to be a factor in this pristine part of the world.
Existing houses include: Group Accommodation houses, Student Accommodation, Old Engineers cottage,
Communal kitchen and dining area which seats up to 60 people, Classroom study with spacious study areas,
Family accommodation, Small cottages in various states of repair that were previously used for Arts and Crafts, and Museum, Houses for living generally and a Backpacker style accommodation with 8 single rooms with a bathroom at one end and a common room with lounge/kitchen/dining at the other. Many older outbuildings including storage sheds and old garages.
Centrally located to Miena, 40 minutes drive, which is the heart of trout fishing in Tasmania, Launceston 1.5 hours, Hobart 1.5 hours, over 2.5 hours to the Devonport Ferry terminal these are approximate times and a lot quicker than the early inhabitants who had to drive a full day in a cart to these places mentioned.Previous owners provided accommodation for schools, families, anglers, corporate groups, back packers and contractor employees. The location provides immediate access to the original Waddamana Power Station of which is now decommissioned and operates as a public museum. The property may appeal to naturalists, bush walkers, anglers, horse riders, schools, developers or tourism operators, all subject to council approval. The central location allows convenient access to a string of fine trout fishing lakes and in particular Penstock Lagoon a popular location renowned for trout fishing.
